How light is it?
11 pounds, about the same as two chihuahuas. Exhaustive research has found that a very cute two-and-a-half-year-old can carry it clear across camp.
How big is it?
Think of a shoebox or a 6-inch stack of printer paper. That’s it. The R1 fits in Decked Drawers, RV cubbies, van garages, Aluboxes, rooftop cargo carriers – really anywhere you can think of.
Does it have folding legs?
You bet your BTUs it does. The R1's Gullwing legs flip out for a steady stance at camp, then fold in for tight packing.

How do exposed flames make your tank last longer?
When you hide your flame at the bottom of a box, you have to crank the fuel just to get the flame to appear above the walls. That drains your tank. Since the R1 has no walls, every bit of fuel you burn becomes light you can use.
What size tank should you use?
We recommend a 10-, 11-, or 20-pound tank. Which one you choose just depends on your space requirements and how far it is to your next resupply.
Is the flame adjustable?
Yep. The R1 comes with an infinitely adjustable pressure regulator, so you can adjust the flame height to your exact needs.
How can it make taller flames with less fuel?
When you were a kid, you probably put two lighters together and got a surprisingly tall flame. The R1 is like that on steroids. 160 precision micro-emitters make 160 tiny flames, which all band together to stretch for the sky

What does it do in strong wind?
BarCoal's air intake is completely concealed, so the system is unaffected by 120 mph winds. The A-Flame wind screen protects the base of the flames from gusts up to 60 mph, but if it does blow out, it simply relights itself from the BarCoal's hot exhaust.
How does it work at altitude?
Perfectly. The HOWL will keep you warm at any altitude on earth. The BarCoal relies only on primary air for combustion system. While air density changes with altitude, the momentum of the fuel jet draws in the correct number of air molecules regardless of air density. It creates a clean and complete combustion from Death Valley to Pikes Peak.
What if it rains or snows?
The BarCoal and A-Flame burners are self draining. Even after multiple days of precipitation, they light right up to make you warm. And if you get a surprise foot of snow overnight, no sweat. Just brush off the HOWL and fire it up.
Is there anything else like it?
Not even remotely. BarCoal is the world's first naturally-aspirated portable radiant tube heater. It makes you warm without fans, batteries, electricity, or anything else that can wear out or break. It's got the heat of a wood fire, but you can use it in way more places and weather conditions.
