A 32-inch flame from a 13-inch frame
The A-Flame burner runs 160 precision micro-emitters. Each one makes a tiny flame, and they all band together and stretch for the sky, the way two lighters held together throw one tall flame. The FlexDome windscreen keeps that flame exposed instead of hiding it down in a box, so every bit of light is light you can use.

Is it really allowed during a burn ban?
The R1 is a UL-certified propane appliance with an on/off valve, no embers and no sparks. That's the category most Stage I and Stage II restrictions in the West allow while wood and charcoal are prohibited. But every agency writes its own order, so don't just read the headline, read the actual order.
Will it keep me warm?
The R1 is our warm-season fire. It throws a tall, bright flame and plenty of light, and it's the right pick for evenings down to around 45°F. If you camp in real cold, wind or shoulder season, you want radiant BarCoal heat, which is the R3 (rated to 25°F) or the R4 MKii (rated to 0°F). We'd rather point you to the right one than oversell this one.
How long does a tank last?
Roughly 8 hours on full blast from a single 20-pound tank, and 16-plus hours on low. A 1-pound disposable bottle runs about 90 minutes on high. We recommend a 10, 11 or 20-pound tank depending on your space and how far it is to your next resupply.
Can I run it off my RV's onboard propane?
Yes. The R1 ships with a standard regulator compatible with 1-pound bottles and 20-pound DOT tanks. The RV Kit adds an X-tension hose and Y-splitter for the low-pressure quick-connect port on most Class A, Class C, fifth wheel and travel trailer rigs.
Does it have folding legs?
You bet your BTUs it does. The R1's Gullwing legs flip out for a steady stance at camp, then fold in for tight packing.
What's the warranty and return policy?

Can I cook on it?
No. HOWL Campfires are certified as decorative outdoor gas appliances, not cooking appliances, and we don't recommend cooking on them. Use the stove for dinner. Use HOWL for the fire.
